Our free tour in Cartagena is ideal to start your stay in one of the cities marked throughout history with an indigenous past, conquests, and pirates. A land where time passes more slowly, joy and endless curiosities that our official local guide will tell you.

About our beloved city
Cartagena (Cartagena de Indias); founded in 1533 by the Spanish conqueror Pedro de Heredia; It became a true colonial jewel after going through several pirate attacks and after the construction of military fortresses, bastions and walls that today enclose what we call “El Corralito de Piedra”.
During the free tour in Cartagena, our guide will explain these past events in detail.
Today we can walk through its streets and squares with its stately homes beautifully decorated with colorful balconies that transport us to colonial times.
On each door of the colonial houses we can see knockers with various figures that tell us about the economic activity of their owners; We will find lions, lizards, maidens, owls and others.
Another fundamental aspect that we cannot miss during the free tour in Cartagena are the churches; with domes and bell towers dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries to mention Saint Peter Claver, Santo Domingo, the Cathedral, La Merced.
Currently we can see in some squares the famous “Palenqueras”; with their dresses with the colors of Colombia and Cartagena Flag; carrying trays of typical fruits of the region on the head so that passers-by can buy or take photos giving some tips.
The palenqueras are originally from the town of “Palenque” which is the first territory free of slavery in America.

Absolutely enjoyed this tour, Edgar was very informative and he shared his personal experiences as well since he was raised in Cartagena.
